Yarn (of 2 colors) - The original calls for yellow and black. But I use all sorts of colors.
Crochet needle - I use 3.5mm. Use the one suitable for your yarn.
Sewing Needles - tapestry needle for sewing with the yarn and a smaller sewing needle for the eyes
2 Buttons or Safety Eyes or Stick-on eyes - I use 9mm black buttons
Thread or glue for attaching the eyes
Mobile strap or keychain (optional)
Abbreviations:
> sc = single crochet
> inc = increase (2 single crochet in the same place)
> dec = decrease (single crochet 2 together)
For the Body :
Round 1 : Start with the darker color, 6 sc in magic ring. *6*
Round 2 : 6 inc. *12*
Round 3 : Change to the lighter color, (1 inc, 1 sc) repeat for 6 times. *18*
Round 4 : (1 sc, 1 inc, 1 sc) repeat for 6 times. *24*
Round 5 : 24 sc. *24*
Round 6 to 9 : Change to the darker color, 24 sc for 4 rounds.
Round 10 to 11 : Change to lighter color, 24 sc for 2 rounds.
Round 12 : (1 sc, 1 dec, 1 sc) repeat for 6 times. *18*
I usually stuff the body here before the opening becomes too small.
Round 13 : (1 dec, 1sc) repeat for 6 times. *12*
Round 14 : 6 dec. *6*
You can stuff the body more at this point before sewing up the opening.
Leave a tail for sewing and cut the yarn. Finish off, weave in one end, and sew the opening close with the other.
For the Wings (Make 2) :
Using the lighter color, 6 sc in magic ring, but do not join the circle.
The flatter side will be attached to the body.
Leave a tail for sewing and cut the yarn. Finish off and weave in the other end.
You're almost done! All that is left is just the assembly. I usually eye ball to determine where the wings and eyes go. What looks right, feels right, should be right! =D
